I've just had a great idea.......

I kid you not.  I have just had a brilliant, inspired idea to start a blog.  And I'm going to call it Craic 'n Crochet!!  I have just been reading Blogtacular's article on starting a blog in five minutes http://blogtacular.com/start-blog-5-minutes/

Blogger came up as the blogging platform I'd like to use so I googled it.  And up came MY home page, with MY blog on it, called.... you guessed it.....Craic 'n Crochet!! Hahahaha!!  Having just read my last post from May 14 I could really almost type the exact same thing again but change the dates! LOL

Maybe I'm not cut out for this blogging melarkey after all!

So, what have I been up to crochet wise since my last post.

Well, I'm still teaching the class which is still going well with a lot of people interested in learning so that's good and word is getting round about our wee class.

There is a girl from our home town who sadly lost her life in Afghanistan.  She was a medic in the British Army.  Her mother asked us to crochet poppy brooches to raise money for the British Legion.  This was so rewarding to do, a lot of work, but so worth it.  We made just under 200 brooches for her to sell and she told us she could have sold them three times over everyone loved them so much. :)

At Christmas I tried my hand at a bit of cross stitch and cross stitched a pattern onto a t-shirt for my brother. I'm not sure it would be one of my favourite crafts but I did enjoy it.

I crocheted a Road Trip Scarf for my sister in law. If you haven't heard of them you should look them up, they are super easy and look great. http://zootyowlcards.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/road-trip-scarves-pattern.html

I'm going to be an Auntie with my neice being due in April so I'm busy crocheting some blankets for her.  This one is my absolute favourite and I can't wait until I finish it to see how it turns out:  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/heaven-pattern-for-crocheted-baby-blanket

I crocheted a beautiful wee car seat blanket for a friend's baby shower.  It is a bought pattern on Ravelry, but I had been admiring it for so long I thought I should just bite the bullet and buy it.  It took me a wee bit to get my head round the pattern but once I got into it it was easy as pie.  And so beautiful when it was finished.  Here's the link to the pattern if anyone is interested:  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lemon-twist-car-seat-baby-afghan

I am not even going to say that I'm going to try to keep this up to date because I'll probably forget all about it again.  See you all in a year then! LOL

Predictably Absent

I love the idea of having a blog.  A place to document the things that are going on with me, that I can look back on and have a permanent reminder of things that have mattered to me.

However, I am notoriously flighty!  I have the concentration of a hover fly, moving from one thing to the next quicker than you can say Jack Spratt!!  And so predictably I began this blog in November 13, and here we are in May 14, and I have only just remembered about it!

Well, that's a fib, I didn't remember.  I had this great idea that I should start writing a blog and when i came onto blogger I discovered that I had already had that idea....... in November!! LOL

So what have I been up to?

Well crochet wise things have taken an unexpected but exciting twist.  I was asked if I could do a crochet class for our local autism support group.  Well I have taught a few people to crochet one on one but never a whole lot at once.  With that horribly flippy feeling in my tummy I agreed to do it.  And I have to say it has been FANTASTIC!  I am loving it.  It is once a fortnight and it's a wee bit erratic (we now have 17 in the class all at different stages) but I am getting a real buzz from deciding what we will learn and making them up their wee packs so they have a back up when they get home and can't remember one word I've said.

I have been busy on the crocheting front too.  Three new arrivals, all boys!  My best friend from school and my neighbour both had bouncing baby boys in February, and another of my school friends became a granny for the second time in March.  A Granny???  Scares the life out of me that I am of an age where I am biologically old enough to be a grandmother! LOL

I made them all a baby blanket.  I only took a photo of the last one I finished (I'm not good at this recording melarky) but I can't upload it just yet as it's stuck on my phone.

I have also been crocheting myself a poncho for the camping season, something to enable me to sit round the fire for a wee bit longer before freezing! LOL

I'm now moving on to something a little smaller, a little lamb for my daughter.  When I have him complete I will try to post some photos up.

Hopefully I will remember about this blog and pop back in! LOL

A Wee Yarn

This is the first post of my blog.  A blog to document my journey of crochet.

In January 2012, a friend taught me the basics of crochet.  Starting me off with a granny square and moving on to Amigurami.  I found the Amigurami didn't quite grab me.  So I started to look up Youtube for some inspiration.  That's where I discovered Mikey from The Crochet Crowd and his fantastic tutorials on every kind of crochet stitch imaginable.  I was hooked! (pardon the pun! LOL)

Now almost two years on I am learning new things every week.  I have discovered that it really matters what colour and type of yarn you are working with.  I find if I don't like the yarn or the colour I loose interest almost immediately.

So I am hoping to document the things I am learning and the projects I complete along the way.

As it's getting chilly around here my current projects are stupidly easy cowls.  I've been trying to use up what bits and pieces of DK wool I have lying about, but needing 3 strands for the chunky cowls and only having one ball of each colour was stopping me using them.  Until I discovered the one ball three strand method yesterday.  What a revelation it is!!
